Who will join Henry Musgriver, English Architect at large, as he explores the nooks and crannies of The Edge, Al Amarja's largest city? Perhaps an escaped mental patient with a unique world view and Head-Explody? Maybe a burned out mercenary looking for work? Or perhaps a creature from one of the Higher Planes joyriding in a human body? Or maybe you'll be just like our dear Mr. Musgriver, a tourist on this beautiful island, taking in the sights.
Join Neil and I as we explore Al Amarja in our online Over the Edge game. If this sounds the least bit interesting please e-mail me at [email protected] All inquirie welcome.

Neil and I thought an online game might be fun and doable through AIM or some similar channel. I have suggested Over the Edge, which is a conspiracy/humor/occult/horror game based on a small Mediterranean island called Al Amarja. If anyone other than Neil is interested, I would be happy to run people through generation and a scenario or two. I'm thinking fairly small scale, no more than two or three hours a week. Something light and fun.

This synthesiser is by far the best I have heard, because it varies the intonation, and doesn't speak like a Dalek.

A good number of the sites I read all have the same things to say, "what we talk about here seems pretty trivial in the wake of all this mess."
(for those wondering, Comic Book Resources, Pitchforkmedia, and Songfight are the ones I'm specifically mentioning). I've just watched this thing for most of the day, I just wanted to bury my head, and now I feel guilty about it.

I had to see the World Trade Center as it was, as I remembered it. It was just a set piece, a prop, something both invincible and intangible. So I watched the opening minutes of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which is the only movie I own set in New York. This morning was the first time I shed tears in front of the television.

Saw Rock Star today. It pretty much felt like I watched the same 45 minute movie twice and towards the end I blurted out, "I am not the Dread Pirate Roberts!" Truly, a movie that wants you to examine its symbolism and its paralells. Avoid.

Lost lost lost lost lost boys. Boing boing boing . . .
There was going to be a point to this post, but it has been lost. I was going to complain about general directionlessness, but being adrift is kinda fun. I was going to complain that my song hadn't been posted at songfight but the new topic (Alright, Alright) hasn't been posted. Sometimes, I sit around the house, nude, and think about my income tax.
But not often.

Just in case Preston might read this:
My Six String Samurai Story
While I attended St. John's I was an avid customer at Oceans II Records on Main Street (I ended up working there my Senior year, but that's a different story, this is before all that). I was looking through the used section and noticed the soundtrack to Six String Samurai in the bin. I had never heard of the movie, but the title amused me. I picked it up and noticed the soundtrack was produced by Joe Galdo.
Joe Galdo is a record producer from Miami. His daughter, whose name was Julia, but everyone called her Chewy, was a member of a shortlived band I was in the summer after my Sophmore year at SJC. So I had met him, and I decided to listen to the soundtrack on that basis. It blew me away. The Red Elvises, as anyone who has heard them, are an amazing Russian-music tinged surf band. And if there's one thing I love it's Surf Music with a Klezmer beat.
I became obsessed with seeing this movie. Turned out it was playing at a Johns Hopkins movie festival. After a lot of wheedling, I convinced Randy Pennell and his then girlfriend that what they really wanted to do was drive out to Baltimore in the middle of the night to see an indie movie they had never heard of.
Sitting in that theater with my friend Diana (who went to Johns Hopkins at the time) and experiencing this movie with a crowd of people who had no idea what to expect, and enjoying themselves, was definitely one of the best moviegoing experiences I've had (the other was seeing the re-released, remastered 'Touch of Evil' at a funky arthouse with a bunch of Johnnies). The less said about the shorts shown before Six String Samurai, the better.
Anyway, I have since been a huge fan of the movie and I'm glad that it's spreading its gleefully goofy roots around.

If you think this is bad on the small keyboards that Apple was including with most of their computers about two years ago, the 'Delete' key has F12 directly over it. Usually this is not a problem, but in Photoshop 4 (which was the version used at SJGames) F12 is the 'revert to last save without asking' button. I know I'm not the only one who lost a lot of time due to this proximity issue. It was suggested that this could be changed, but I never figured out how.

I saw and enjoyed The Others yesterday afternoon. However, the movie illustrated the main problem with the new standard of stadium seating. Stadium seating is great if the film has constant noise or music, but The Others relys so much on dead silence to create its mood that the shifting of candy in its box, or the chewing of popcorn becomes its own soundtrack. The smallest amount of noise is amplified in the cavernous theater, and the close proximity to the people behind you doesn't muffle anything. What would not be noticed in an older theater starts to border on being rude. Of course, the paper bags that popcorn is served in in most places now triples the noise. My recommendation for The Others is to see it in a more old fashioned theater or wait until it comes out on video and find a friend who has a good surround sound system. It's an excellent piece of suspense moviemaking, and the jumps alone are worth sitting through a masticating orcehstra.
I feel old.
