Wow... not only is The Fray one of the most wonderful websites out there, but even now, and even with all the pretty graphical layout they do, the stories are entirely readable in Lynx. That's pretty cool. _

Updated the list of other bloglets. Or rather, added a list of non-bloglet-based weblogs, since it was becoming more and more necessary. Bridgie is a future St. John's student (starting this fall), who I should have linked to some time ago, and who was the first person I didn't actually know to admit to reading bloglet. Kerne is... does anybody that reads this not know Kerne? Anyway, he's stopped using bloglet to update his weblog; like me, he is driven to hack together his own solutions to such things. Preston was one of last year's febbies. I don't know him that well, but he seems like a good sort, and he has a weblog, so, since this seems to be the closest thing to a canonical list of Johnny weblogs out there, it seemed right to add him.

(Hmm... actually, I suspect really the canonical list of Johnny weblogs would have to be Neil's Blogledyte list.) _

It's odd how sometimes I'll come across a question to which I already know the answer, and I know that the answer won't actually affect what I'm going to do, but which it's still valuable to ask because of the attention it focuses on the topic of the question. _

I went out walking for like an hour and a half this evening. Around ten o'clock, got fed up with being at home (it's so damned hot in here!), went outside, and just started walking off into the night to see what I would find. I walked to the town square, briefly saw someone from work and said hi, and then headed north. What I found, as it turns out, was sheep. After about half an hour, I looked to my right, noticing that the houses had been thinning out just a bit, and there they were. They were a bit surprised to see me--didn't run away, but moved back a few paces. I decided at that point that I must have found whatever I was looking for, so I stayed to watch the sheep a bit longer, and then turned around to walk home. Said hello to a cat. Indulged in a deadly virtue (convenience store food, specifically). Walked on home.

It's curious the effect that a walk in the night like that can have on my feelings. It didn't cheer me up, exactly, nor even make me too tired to be upset. But when I left, my emotions were all a jumble, as though there was so much noise in my mind that I couldn't feel anything clearly, not to mention the heat, which makes everything a bit less coherent; and now that I'm back, I feel refreshed, but also sort of quietly melancholy, and it's interesting, because it's what was at the core of what I was feeling before, but it's so much clearer and more peaceful.

It all sort of wraps itself up into a great big ball sometimes, the discontent, and the loneliness, and the regret, and the [I'm sure I could go on, but you get the point], and I get so afraid. If I'm still in this place a year from now I don't know what will become of me.

It's interesting--Cassie takes a walk (apparently), which leads her to make a bloglet entry, which gets the idea of taking a walk into my head, eventually leading me to take a walk, which leads me to make a bloglet entry. More of that organism Neil was talking about. _

Okay, I'm looking at my search requests again. Interesting discoveries: almost a quarter of my hits are from people searching for "unanswerable questions, a fact which I find very intruiging, and which makes me want to expand on the argument of that item a bit. Slightly more than a quarter of my hits are from people looking for some variation on the theme of deepthroat, as mentioned before--I'm not sure they're hitting the right part of the page, so I should adjust the html on that page to make it clear what it means. One hit from someone looking for "busta-peck", and one hit from someone looking for pages related to Mr. Busta-Peck's page at St. John's; this intruiges and delights me. One hit looking for E. Michael Jones--again, I should make the context a bit more clear on that page. One hit for "ents lord of the rings"--I'd like to figure out what that one found, but I'm not sure I can really make it more useful. One hit for "feynman orange juice", which I'm sure Mirabai and I have both mentioned, but I'm not sure either of us have actually linked to a recording of the song, which would be a Good Thing To Do. Two searches for "hobbes leviathan"--I hope they were amused. Two searches for Emily Dickinson poems--in those cases, all I provided was a link, but it still seems to be good, so I'm happy with that. A search for "jeeves"--and whoever did the search probably found Mirabai's Jeeves/Wooster slash reference, the poor thing. A search for "mvc.bin"--presumably a well known binary file of some sort. A search for a pause command in unix, which I seem to have provided, so that's all good. A search for "pictures of the monopoly board"--this one baffles me, I'll have to recreate it. A search for "tcp redirect perl"... I remember trying to figure out how to do an http redirect in perl, but I'm not sure what a tcp redirect even is, so I doubt I answered this one... I don't think I even mentioned the http redirect perl on here... I'll have to investigate. A search for w.d ross--I think all I did was gloat about having a big text and commentary of Aristotle's Metaphysics, that he edited, so that's probably not helpful of me. A search for "yo yo ma yo mamma", and I imagine my wordplay way back when on that topic was as useful as anything else would be. And a search for something not in English. Hmm.

So overall, it's interesting to look at search requests, and I may actually be able to use them to make my page more helpful to people. _

Teehee! Someone found the site when looking for E. Michael Jones! Hurray! Amusement at the thought of perplexed people! (though it may just have been my search... still, I can hope at least). And of course, I've had eight searches that featured deepthroat among the search terms--I can only imagine the surprise on their faces when they learn that oral sex is no longer fun. _
